Does CBD Get You High?

From reducing inflammation to dealing with their anxiety, improving their sleep quality to lessen stress, people are turning to cannabidiol (CBD) to help with a wide range of everyday problems and, at this point, we are almost certain you’ve heard of CBD since it has taken the world by storm.  


Because of CBD’s quick rise to popularity, many questions have been raised, including arguably the most common: Does CBD get you high?


The answer? No. No, it doesn’t. 


That’s that. 


The end.


Only kidding, but the short answer is, indeed, no CBD does not get you high.


The cannabinoid, CBD, is non-intoxicating, meaning that it doesn’t provide the high that you will experience smoking or consuming marijuana. 


To better understand why CBD doesn’t get you high while marijuana does, it’s important to highlight the differences between CBD and THC briefly.



DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CBD AND THC


CBD, short for cannabidiol, is the second most abundant cannabinoid found in cannabis. 


CBD is not intoxicating, so it doesn’t provide the high that many marijuana smokers hope to achieve. 


Tetrahydrocannabinol, otherwise known as THC, is the most abundant cannabinoid found in cannabis. 


THC is intoxicating or, in other words,  it gets you high. 


While CBD is found in marijuana, THC is the cannabinoid that gives you the euphoric high that’s commonly associated with smoking weed.


Taking THC can help with improving your mood, heightening your senses, and increasing your happiness, but taking too much can cause anxiety and even paranoia. 


While THC is popular for reacreational use, CBD is known primarily for being a part of the health and wellness category since its benefits include helping with anxiety and reducing inflammation in the body, among many other benefits that can help both internally and externally.


However, with knowing that CBD doesn’t get you high, a common misinformed statement that you might hear is that CBD is non-psychoactive, which is entirely false.


CBD is psychoactive.


By definition, psychoactive is “affecting the mind.” Although CBD doesn’t get you high, it very clearly has an effect on your brain, as you can see by looking at its potential benefits such as improving your mood, reducing feelings of anxiousness and depression, and many more. 


The idea that CBD isn’t psychoactive stems from the fact that many people associated the psychoactive properties in THC as the reason for them getting high when, in reality, that’s just not the case. 


Just remember if you’re CBD is hemp-derived or less than 0.3% THC, you don’t need to worry about getting high because, well -- you won’t!
